Bucket Bag Laundry at Ciliwung River

In the first half of the last century it was still common to see ladies lining the still clear waters of Ciliwung river doing laundry. There was a public washing spot near the Passar Baroe bridge where laundresses gathered. So widespread was the laundry profession along the Ciliwung waterway that one ‘kampung’ was named after it - ‘Petojo Binatu’
